An Apology for the Upcoming Post Bombardment

In which I write a post to apologise for writing posts

I have just installed a new Events Calendar feature on Slawit.org (see it there in the sidebar? Isn’t it delightful?). It’s rather clever in that whenever I write a post about an event it automagically lists it on the calendar for me.

I want to make the calendar as comprehensive and inclusive as possible. However this means that for a short while I may be posting a relatively large number of posts about all sorts of events that may not even be happening until November.

I’m aware that a number of people get updates from Slawit.org via their email, and that a barrage of emails from the site might get a little bit annoying. However don’t hit unsubscribe – I can assure you that it’s only going to be temporary and my sporadic and lazy posting schedule will resume as normal shortly.

If you are not subscribed via email then I demand you do immediately so you too can be irritated by my reports of the Slaithwaite Bottle Top Collecting Societies AGM in September. You can subscribe by entering your email address in the little box on the top of the sidebar.

A Note on Slawit.org Editorial Policy

A clarification about what this site will cover in the wake of recent tragic events in Slaithwaite

After quite a bit of reflection on what direction I wish this site to take I have decided that I will not be covering news items such as the body recently found in the River Colne.

There are two reasons for this:

Firstly I do not consider myself a journalist, and do not have the resources, skills, or contacts to cover stories such as this with the appropriate rigour, timeliness and sensitivity that such tragic events require. The reporters at The Examiner are far better suited to that.

Secondly my intention is for Slawit.org to be a source of information and news about things that directly involve/effect the community. As more information about the death of the individual emerges there may be issues arise surrounding the incident that would be appropriate to examine here. However I feel at this moment in time any coverage of the incident on this site could be seen as insensitive gossip and sensationalism.

Do you have any views on this issue? What approach to news such as this do you feel would be appropriate to take on this site? Feel free to leave a comment or get in touch via the contact page.
